How often do you need a CP42?
The accepted standard is a CP42 inspection at least every 12 months. Most insurers, landlords and environmental health officers will expect to see a record dated within the last year.
Why every 12 months
Commercial kitchens work their gas appliances hard. Burners, flame failure devices, hoses and connections wear quickly in a busy kitchen, and grease and heat put extra strain on the installation. An annual inspection catches problems before they become dangerous or expensive.
When you need one sooner
- You have installed, moved or replaced a gas appliance
- Work has been done on the gas pipework or the ventilation
- You are taking over or opening new premises
- Your insurer, landlord or the council has asked for a current record
- You can smell gas, or an appliance is not working correctly. In that case, turn the gas off and call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 first.
Never miss your renewal
When we carry out your CP42, we keep the date on file and contact you before your next one is due, so you are never caught out by an expired record.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if my CP42 runs out?
Your insurance could be affected and you may be asked for a current record by your landlord or the council. Book a new inspection as soon as possible.
Can I book my CP42 early?
Yes. Many businesses book a few weeks early so there is time to fix anything before the old record expires.
